Pitcher, 7.5 inches. Brown transfer. This Aesthetic pattern made by Powell & Bishop bears three printed marks, including the pattern name “Bramble,” the maker’s mark, and a figure with a parasol and the wording “Oriental Ivory.” A painted pattern number “9786” is also included. The realistic botanical arrangement is made up of blackberry or raspberry branches, with fruit, flowers, leaves and thorny stems. The border consists of a thorny vine with repeated pairs of leaves.
Founded in 1851 as Livesley, Powell & Co. In 1860 Mr. Livesley left the business, which was renamed Powell & Bishop in 1867. Mr. Frederic Bishop and Mr. James Watson Bishop were the partners.
