Platter, 20 by 16 inches. Maker is Hope & Carter. A graceful pattern which fills the plate with a bough of pink flowers and bamboo-like foliage. There is an Oriental feeling to the overall pattern. The border is narrow and contains a repeated motif of a tiny geometric pattern which looks like an exotic temple. A straight short line separates the images.
John Hope, formerly a partner in the firm of Pinder, Bourne & Co., at the dissolution of partnership in 1861, formed a new firm by taking in a Mr. Carter as partner, and under the style of Hope & Carter manufactured earthenware for the English trade at the Fountain Place Works.
