Part of the Ollin Yoliztli Calaca Series. Masks created over the duration of 3-4 years. While creating this collection, the artist developed and perfected his own style of painting for the calaca masks.
Ollin Yoliztli is a Phoenix based dance group that performs traditional Mexican Folklore dances. Cultural Coalition has partnered with them for decades, educating the public and keeping Mexican traditions alive within the community.
Mask base painted in off-white. Blue, pink, orange, and green color scheme. Border of eyes outlined in orange, bottom border outlined in a triangular shape. Green, upside down triangle at the top center of the forehead, with a small, right side up triangle on the chin. Blue zig-zag lines on the cheeks. Blue triangular, swirly line on the forehead. Pink swirly lines on each side of the forehead. Purple eyebrows and nose tip. Outer border of teeth outlined in pink, inner border outlined in dark red. Short, orange brush stroke marks above and below the teeth. Gems of various colors placed on the chin, cheeks, and forhead.
