Part of the Ollin Yoliztli Calaca Series. Masks created over the duration of 3-4 years. While creating this collection, the artist developed and perfected his own style of painting for the calaca masks.
Ollin Yoliztli is a Phoenix based dance group that performs traditional Mexican Folklore dances. Cultural Coalition has partnered with them for decades, educating the public and keeping Mexican traditions alive within the community.
Calaca mask with off-white painted base. Painted primarily with purple and red designs. Small, blue paint strokes painted above and below the mouth and on the nose. Border of eyes outlined in red. Red nostrils. Pink gems on the center of each cheek. Red gems on each side of the mouth. Yellow gem on the center of the chin. Multicolored gems on the forehead.
