Inspiration:
"Walk Alone | Hambidge Trails II" captures the essence of solitude and self-discovery amidst nature. Inspired by my first residency at the Hambidge Center for Arts in the mountains of Rabun Gap, GA, this piece features a silhouette that has become a recurring motif in my work, symbolizing personal journey and introspection.
The background, created with bamboo, evokes the natural setting of Hambidge, with its vertical streaks mimicking the tall trees and forest paths. The contrast between the dark silhouette and the warm, textured background highlights the figure's presence in and connection to the environment.
The figure, dressed in a flowing white skirt, strides purposefully across the composition, embodying grace and determination. This image represents my experience of walking alone through the trails, both literally and metaphorically, during the creative process of the residency.
Materials used include high gloss enamel, Terraskin paper, bamboo, Unryu Tissue Kozo, and resin, creating a multi-layered, tactile piece that blends organic textures with sleek, modern elements.
This artwork speaks to themes of isolation, personal growth, and the profound impact of immersing oneself in nature during artistic exploration.
